Yeah They Were All Yellow
August 24th 2007 01:42
For Australian residents, you’re probably hiding under a rock if you didn’t see any coverage over the last few weeks of the David Jones and Myer Spring/Summer launch shows. Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins were parading their respective stores’ wares and championing this season’s trends, sycophantically surrounded by media, buyers and designers alike.
Perhaps because it’s so striking, one of the stand outs of these parades was the yellow dress. Seen in a series of collections in casual to formal wear, you are guaranteed to see young fashionistas sporting a golden tan and a yellow mini in the summer streets.
I was reluctant to cover the scourge of yellow that has plagued the media over the last month or so. However I feel I owe it to the loyal few who read my posts, to help them find a suitable option should they have the skin for it and wish to indulge in a summer splash of sunflower style.
My fave for designer wear, Net-A-Porter have a sunny Nina Ricci cocktail dress, a quirky Chloe mini dungaree dress, or this lovely shift below. (Cash up before you click).
And All the Things You Do - 12th St by Cynthia Vincent Jacquard Yellow Shift Dress - image from net-a-porter.com
For a more budget conscious option, Revolve Clothing has a cute version available to buy online by Karta, with some embroidered embellishments.
Australian designers take up the helm admirably. Josh Goot has given us a sporty luxe style mini dress in his latest collection shown above. For a more feminine touch to the trend, try Fleur Wood who always injects romance into the mix.
Nicola Finetti puts a bit of cha-cha fun into it with ruffles, while Kirrily Johnston make it long, floaty and futuristic.
Check chain stores for their take, you’re likely to see something similar at Sportsgirl, Portmans and no doubt labels like Cooper St. and One Teaspoon will have a casual beachy version to pop on over your togs.
I apologise if this post comes with a hint of jaded annoyance. I simply can’t wear yellow, it makes me look ridiculously gaunt in the face and does nothing for me whatsoever. This is one of those trends for beautiful, tanned, tall, elegant types, like Eva Mendes. Be warned.
No wonder Megan and Jennifer carry it off.
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And all the things that you do.

Ahhh...no. Your comment makers are not an indication of how many people are reading you.
I've been forwarding your posts to friends (plus you're a favourite link on my GammaBlog)...and now quite a few of them read your posts...but they don't comment nor vote (slackers!...they don't do this for me either!)
Plus the Orble traffic stats indicate that fashion.org.au is pulling in the readers [again]...and I believe...it's thanks to you Chic.

La Jolie does look pretty in that dress, true, and corn is yellow so you're allowed to say what you like!
Thanks for popping in gorgeous wabbolies girl!
Cib - not easy - and not for me! I hope others can do it though, it will brighten up the streets!

...hee hee...
"corn is yellow..."! hahahahahahahaha!!
Seriously now...I do love yellow, not pale yellow though...more daffodil, buttercup, Wallaby gold...I'm wearing a daffodil yellow crochet knit fitted cardigan now over...and I KNOW this sounds awful...a fuschia scoop neck top and man style pants...and I just love colour....sigh....
Kind words they may be but it's your words that are doing the trick hon.
CC...over and out...DD

victimperson who likes to wear yellow!...actually...I've always worn yellow.
So then, not a victim...but will be considered one now.
Thank goodness the Rugby World Cup is on...that will be my reason for sunshine gold!
No one can question my motives because I always wear a Wallabies badge or bracelet. F**K I'm tragic....
You're so right Louie! (re Mel Cup).
It's Jennifer's prancing pony walk isn't it??
...funnily enough...even though I think she is divine goddess looking...Megan Gale irritates me.
Then again it could just be mega envy!
Sometimes she goes into try hard sexy mode...okay now I just sound jealous......hee hee...
Although...Megan Gale would look Amazonian amazing as Wonder Woman.

My tragic (and beautiful in yellow no doubt) DD, MG is a little on the irritating side. Particularly given that she thinks she is a presenter sometimes. It doesn't work for me. Has anyone ever seen her on Rove back when Corinne was on it too? I got the feeling she gave Corinne the "tom-tits" also known as the s-h 1 Thompson's.
I can't seem to get anything right for you katyzzz. I need to know what you do like.....? I can do a post for you then?

"Turn Into Something Beautiful - Kirrily Johnston Yellow Dress"
--is that the "before" picture? Is she *about* to turn into something beautiful?
Cuz, you know, that pic looks like a Hare Krishna with a pretzel on her head.
I don't think even Marilyn Monroe on her best day could carry that one off...

And I think it may be me, but I really don't find Angelina Jolie attractive. At all. I'm not even kidding. A skeleton with fat lips and boobs. Combined, it makes her look like she'll fall forward from the disproportionate weight between her front and back, and I'm including the lips in this equation.
Fleur Wood is a god. Her and Kit Willow. Everything they design makes me think of that Sofia Coppola trademark of golden sunlight dappled through tree branches. So ethereal and makes your retinas melt from the overdose in aesthetics.

PS I love Jolie in black!!!! But the yellow looks... just too bright on her. It's like it's trying to OUTDO her beauty with its own.
