October 9th 2007 00:01
No need to flip and flop making the decision, for better or worse the Aussie thong, now rebadged as flip flops have left the sandy beach long ago. Gauging by response the comfortable, open air cooled footwear of choice will continue to thrive this summer season.
Since making a comeback a couple of years ago, this retro style 70’s footwear has had its manufacture altered from the basic flat rubber sole, u band foundation to be embellished by adornments and extensions of the concept.
Still bright, flashy colours dominate the casual designs. Adaptable it seems to any length and cut of pants leg, from mini denim skirts to baggy cut jeans the right pair can be seen on most streets globally.
Flaunting the foot and drawing attention to the toes, somewhere along the line flip flops became a fashion statement. Now complete with “bling” their seems to be a thong for all occasions.
From smart formal to sleepwear the slip on ease suits all from the caravan dweller to the mansion inhabitant. Natural patterns like flowers, animals other cute pariphenalia can sit beside rhinestone incrusted attention seekers.
The cheap and affordable price of the average pair certainly would be a component to steady sales. But more and more it seems that the versatility of textiles, fabrics and colours is what propels the prolific evolution of patterns and shapes.
Shoe technology too has broken ground in the marketplace with the new topless variety of FF that adheres to the foot from the sole without that sticky feeling. So it seems no matter what the shape, size or mood of your taste such a vast array of selections are available to satisfy even the most unique individual.
