As the Mercury steadily inches its way up higher than a pair of daisy Duke shorts its time to again start thinking about what to wear in the scorching Aussie sun.

A whole new genre

Galliano's last catwalk show for his own label was brash brazen bordehlo but this season for Dior he's shifted from the door-jambs of Paris to the silver-screens of Hollywood, invoking screen sirens and sirs across eras, genders and genres.

Ode to an Italian Dress

DOlce and Gabbana Summer 08 PAINTED BLACK DRESS
All images from http://eng.dolcegabbana.it

Flamboyant and theatrical, Dolce and Gabbana’s Summer 2008 collection is indeed replete with works of art. For Australian residents, you’re probably hiding under a rock if you didn’t see any coverage over the last few weeks of the David Jones and Myer Spring/Summer launch shows. Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins were parading their respective stores’ wares and championing this season’s trends, sycophantically surrounded by media, buyers and designers alike.

Jakaan logo
From Jakaan.com.au

Up and coming Melbourne label Jaakan has only been around for a few seasons but already their favouring of beautiful fabrics and playful attention to detail has made me quite a fan. And yes, their logo is of a little boy peeing - a satirical contrast to their clothes which, despite a cheeky sense of humour are still not quite so crude. There is no mention of the inspiration for this logo on their website but luckily for the conscience of the average inner-city pinko leftie (guilty as charged) they refuse to use sweatshop labour

Why fashion?

From Manoloblahnik.com Just try telling me that this is not beauty

With a background in literary theory and philosophy, an interest in fashion has been a naughty secret of mine for some time. But it’s time to go public. I love fashion and I’ve got good reasons. Firstly, it is aesthetically pleasing but also the social and cultural significance fashion holds are part of our everyday non-verbal communication
