Johnny Cash's smooth tones provided the soundtrack to the Claude Maus range which was next to hit the catwalk at MMSFW Style Wars. A chic and stylish range in monochrome, the pieces catered for women as well as men who have a retro-Euro look in mind.

Pretty round skirts with square external pockets, cute black ribbon neck ties, funky layering for the girls, and menswear with a Ralph Lauren meets mod overtone, this collection was nothing but 21st Century Melbourne. Smart work wear which would see you through to evening drinks included shirt dresses with bows, micro mini dresses with textured overlay fabrics and jackets, shiny anoraks and plenty of black and grey meant this was a very Melbourne designer indeed.

The ultra-feminine styling of Kate Hurst followed, continuing with the mini trend (dresses, skirts, shorts). Pale blue chambray-esque fabrics and bright oranges gave this a definite spring vibe, with florals and high waisted shorts continuing the theme.

Flounces and floaty sleeves, ruffles and sweet dresses all contributed to give this collection a fresh, cute and casual feeling, without need to sacrifice quality tailoring. The featured evening gown was a stunning black sparkly number, with a retro 60's shift feel, after which the range included some more street styled 80's influenced gear with zippers and cropped jackets.

While the tempo shifted into high speed with the hard core techno music for Friedrich Gray's range, the catwalk models were clearly instructed to keep the pace fast and furious. More black and white and more mini's graced the stage with a feminine, sporty and casual feel. Again, a mod overtone, particularly for the men, with checked shirts buttoned to the neck, anoraks, waistcoats and stovepipe pants.

Punk paid a visit here, with printed tees and hooded jersey tops, mini singlet dresses and zippered leather. Designs often used the contrast of a flowing cape or oversized jacket in soft greys or light fabric to add a feint hint of the feminine. Comfortable loose fabrics teamed with tight leggings and with a dramatic shredded look to a black coat, this is one label to keep your eye on.

We have all seen the power of the stylist. Before we knew it, Hollywood stylist Rachel Zoe had Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie and Jessica Simpson all sporting drapey gowns over wispy thin bodies. One journalist touts that its only since Celebrities and Designers realised that revenue could be bought in from red carpet photographs, that the Stylist has forged a position in society on par to a Publicist and Celebrity Manager. They are THE ultimate accessory and Celebrities today dont leave home without them.

A new super power has emerged with the baby boom among CEO's, Supermodels and Hollywood's A-List - having on call one's very own Parisian Baby Stylist. I had the pleasure of catching up with the name in every starlets Little Black Book - Laetitia Lerouge

For Australian residents, you’re probably hiding under a rock if you didn’t see any coverage over the last few weeks of the David Jones and Myer Spring/Summer launch shows. Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins were parading their respective stores’ wares and championing this season’s trends, sycophantically surrounded by media, buyers and designers alike.

After receiving an hilarious video link this morning, which some of you may have already seen, it got me thinking about the hazards of high heels. Here's the video....and prepare to have a giggle at someone else’s expense.

Electric Dreams - 80's revival

My father was in the fashion business, or rag trade as it's more commonly known amongst those who are part of it. He told me something when I was a young girl that I've never forgotten. That is, when a fashion from a previous time is revived and presented to a new generation of young women, it's always the crass, kitschy, and, well, daggy stuff that seems to come back. Cos really....if it's stylish and has class, it never goes away.

Continuing on with the 70's vibe that is edging its way into collections at the moment, the ideal dress for hotter climes has thankfully returned. Finally a style and fit for everyone, and a move away from the mini; there's something for everyone out there while this is hitting the celebrity pages and catwalks worldwide.
