Disco Fever - Sparkle in Spring
August 3rd 2007 06:57
Studio 54 will be eating its heart out in the coming spring / summer when Sydney breaks out in shiny sequins to head out and boogie like its 1977. From haute couture to locals, the shiny and colourful is making a comeback. Sequins moved into the gauche for a while there, but it's back, and it's got its boogie on.
Given the excessive styling of the new trend, it's best to keep accessories to an absolute bare minimum in order to not go completely over the top. If colour is your thing, go for a rich blue like the stunning Ungaro dress above, or to stay with the current metallics, perhaps a plainer silver or gold might be your thang.
Many of the current designs are simple shifts, keeping with the current 60's feel, but there is a definite movement (couldn't use the word shift again now could I) towards the 70's at least with the shiny detail and colouring. Some designers are taking it that step further, with an interesting meld across several decades, while still being progressive and contemporary with their designs.
Never one to shy away from opulence and extravagant design, Alex Perry has also included some cuts which shimmer and shine in his recent collection. This strapless gold number is an absolute stunner and is sure to dazzle even the dullest event.
Other designers who have caught on to the disco gleam include Givenchy through to the more local Marnie Skillings. Of course the trend is not limited to dresses. Twinkly tops can be found in local chain stores to go with your denims and heels for more smart casual days, or dressed up in some stovepipes and boots.
For those of us on a more modest budget, this trend has luckily not been limited to only high end fashionistas. Chains like French Connection are also producing their own take on the glimmer with dresses like the one below.
This sparkly sensation is a trend that the twenty-something’s will be experiencing for the first time - enjoy the frivolity of it all and dance away your boogie nights in the latest in shimmery flamboyant glamour.

katyzzz - true - well thought out runway style - of course it appeals to your artistic eye....
Miki - I think clubbing might be a good option, but I guess it depends on what kind of work you do for it to be suitable - probably not, say, if you're a corporate lawyer for example....
By the way - thanks to all for making this the highest rating post I've ever done!! Number 3 in the top 20! Hooray!

WELL, I LOVE A BIT OF FLASH AND SPLASH TOO...BUT, IF I WAS TO DARE SQUEEZE MY BLOATED TORSO INTO ONE, I'D LOOK MORE LIKE A CHRISTMAS BAUBLE THAN ANYTHING ELSE....WELL...BESIDES A GROTESQUE DRAG QUEEN....tee hee...(oops!.. just saw the capitals...mistake...not yelling...sorry...but can't be bothered retyping it all!!)
By the way "Chic" one of your Domain Name suggestions has made my short list, check the rest of them out and post another one under the new short list post, if you have one. Tanx!!
