Salma Hayek

God created the all-natural (well, okay, so she’s had a nose-job) Latin Goddess Salma Hayek on September 2 1966 in the city of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Born to a Spanish opera singer mama and a Lebanese businessman papa, she was raised in a devoutly Catholic family, and then she was sent to a Lousiana boarding school at the age of 12.
After getting into trouble for terrorizing the nuns (go girl!), Salma turned to Mexico, but she was eventually sent to Houston, Texas, to live with her aunt, until the age of 17. Subsequently she moved to Mexico City, studied International Relations as a university student, but, much to the chagrin of her family, decided to drop out in order to pursue a career as an actress.
“I thought I was a princess, I lived in a castle and my father was a king; I wore tiaras; I was born diva-ish.”
After dabbling in theatre Salma did good on a popular television soap opera called Teresa (1989), which made her a national celebrity, but she shocked her fans by quitting the show and leaving for the City of Angels to pursue a film career. After taking a year to learn English and to study acting Salma got her first break when director Allison Anders cast her in a supporting role in Mi Vida Loca (1993). Robert Rodriguez caught sight of her, tracked her down and promptly cast her in Desperado (1995), his big-budget 1995 remake-cum-sequel to El Mariachi(1993).
[SIZE=3]Rodriguez again demonstrated his faith in her when he cast her as the voluptuous vampire Santanico Pandemonium in his comedy-horror extravaganza From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), which has gone on to become a cult (albeit short) performance of hers amongst Hayek fans. Other movies include the limp-dick disco flick 54 (1998), the potent horror The Faculty (1998), the dire Dogma (1999), the even worse Wild Wild West (1999), and the highly under-rated experimental Time Code (2000). Unfortunately, and probably due to her thick Spanish accent more than anything else, Hayek has never had the big starring break she deserves. That was until Frida (2002). A role she was born to play. She received an Oscar nomination for her performance as the tortured Mexican artist. She bares all, emotionally and physically. Actually she’s not too shy about peeling off the threads for a role. "If I go on a diet and work out, I'm always in a bad mood. I'd rather be a little heavier but nice," confesses Salma. And don’t we just love her for it. Salma has had an undulating film career, but she’s managed to stay afloat in the cut-throat celebrity field by frequently appearing throughout the fashion world in numerous magazine spreads. She has that rare figure that is both curvaceous, yet is never considered overweight. And in Hollywood overweight can be only a matter of a few pounds! She’s been engaged three times (to three different actors, one of whom was Edward Norton), yet has stated; "I keep waiting to meet a man who has more balls than I do." Well, seems she has, since she’s expecting a child to current fiancé businessman Francois-Henri Pinualt. Pinault owns PPR, the luxury goods firm that owns iconic fashion houses Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent. Salma Hayek’s inner and outer beauty is like a cross between Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch, the glorious hour-glass figure and gorgeous Latin looks with the piercing sultry all-woman bravura, no-bullshit attitude. “In my world, you have to be so beautiful, so skinny, so rich, so famous and I don't believe you really have to be any of those things. You simply have to be who you are. I do have thighs and a butt. I have cellulite. Don't be too impressed with me. Don't try to dress like me or wear your hair like mine. Find your own style. Don't spend your savings trying to be someone else ..." "... You're not more important, smarter, or prettier because you wear a designer dress. I get them free and I'm too lazy to go out and look for my own. I, a rich girl from Mexico, came here with designer clothes. And one day, when I was starving in an apartment in Los Angeles, I looked at my Chanel blouses and said, 'If only I could pay the rent with one of these.” Salma, don’t you worry your pretty head, you’ll never have to part with your wardrobe! Just watch those yummy tempting tapas and you'll be fine! hee hee hee ...
