ROY Melbourne Fashion Week 2002
June 6th 2006 09:33
You might not know him by name, but you've most likely seen his really cute tops or coloured skinnies, sported on stylish bods. Roy Christou is the guy behind the label, whose uncanny ability to cater for both boys and girly girls has retained my respect for his designs over the years. However, that was before I stumbled upon the photos of his 2002 Melbourne Fashion Week range!
I don't like how he puts the macho muscly models in lacy g-strings
I do like the jeans though.
I'm not sure whether this was intentional or not, but I find it a bit yucky. I'm liking less with each photo I see.
I like the trackies. Actually I like this whole set, but that waistline is wickedly, worryingly low.
Ok that's just beyond treacherously low. I think this could actually be classed as a criminal offence in some countries.
Now this is more like it. For a second there, I forgot how cool Roy is.
I really like the women's wear in this season - Roy was way before his time with the pastel striped rugby tops/polos. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember preppy sportswear being much of a trend until 2003ish.
I still love Roy's clothes in this collection, but the guys in lacy g-strings just weird me out. His debut women's wear range is great though - I see a lot of pieces that are staples in my wardrobe. Perhaps he was trying to highlight the women's wear by feminising the guys, but I'm still not a fan of it! Apart from that, Roy's designs in this collection clearly had a huge effect on subsequent streetwear fashion, as many of these pieces are still prevalent trends today. Personally, I'll continue to wear my Roy denim mini with pride; maybe not halfway down my backside though.
