Rose McGowan
June 19th 2007 16:20
My favourite intellectual tart, Rose Arianna McGowan was born in Tuscany, Italy on the 5th of September, 1973 to a French mother and an Irish father. I see where she got the "party hard but still look great in the morning" attitude and look from.
Rose was raised in a Children of God commune - same group of freaks that the Phoenix clan were part of (as in River, Leaf/Joaquin, Liberty, Summer and Rain) - in Florence, Italy, but moved to Washington, USA, when she was ten and her parents divorced.
She emancipated (that word just oozes mischief) herself at 15, the free spirit that she is, and moved to the City of Angels to spread her lustrous wings, but not before doing serious modeling as a child for Italian magazines. While loitering outside an L.A. gym she was discovered by a talent agency and cast in a small role in the comedy Encino Man (1992). Indie director Gregg Araki caught wind of her and cast her as a speed demon in The Doom Generation (1995) and her career began to zoom.
Other notable film roles include the annoying Scream (1996), the under-rated Going all the Way (1997) with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Davies, the wry high school romp Jawbreaker (1999) and most recently in the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino exploitation double whammy Grindhouse (2007). She went red and played Ann-Margret in a tele-movie, Elvis (2005), and looked hot, hot, hot!
But to most she is known as Paige Matthews, one of the three white witch sisters of television’s hugely successful series Charmed. ‘Tis a pity, because she’s a more commanding actor than her on-screen colleagues.
In 1997 Rose met pop-Goth rocker Marilyn Manson and they became engaged two years later. In 2001 they separated. If it was divorce the legal term would be irreconcilable differences. Basically she couldn’t deal with his diet of hard drugs and nocturnal living. Not that she’s an angel. "I always thought I was more satanic than Manson," quips Rose, “I think if I’d lived back in Salem, I would have been burned at the stake.”
With her alabaster skin and trademark ruby red lipstick, large expressive eyes, and hour-glass figure, Rose makes a formidable presence on screen. She also owns any photo session she does, having done numerous fashion spreads and art photography.
Despite being quoted saying “I think women look better with a little more weight on them. Being super thin makes you look haggard", Rose has lost a lot of weight over recent years. She appears to be no longer the luscious bombshell she was in the 90s. But still the Hollywood flower turns heads.
It is obvious however that gorgeous Rose has had some kind of work done, not only botex injections, but probably plastic surgery, not just because she's now 33, and in that dangerous zone all Hollywood stars fear; the oil slick to 40, but because Rose was in a car accident earlier this year. Plus she probably hardly sleeps, the poor thing, I feel for her. I do. Rose, ease back, girl, eat some decent food, get some beauty sleep!
To add insult to injury she was accused of being the catalyst in the breakup of her Grindhouse director Robert Rodriguez’s marriage. But her publicity agent has denied Rose had her thorns out.
In one scene of Grindhouse, Quentin Tarantino tells McGowan that she looks like Ava Gardner, but Rose says she doesn't get paid that compliment very often in real life. "It's funny. She's one of my idols, just purely looks. She's stunning and a lot better actress then she was given credit for," she said. "The day that I could actually be told I really look like her, would be a fantastic day because I should take the compliment and shut up. ‘Yes, I get told that all the time.’ No, I don't."
Ava Schmava! Rose, you’re a rose, take a whiff of yourself, you smell great! I mean, you were named as one of the crème da le crème of style divas at the Cannes film festival this year, what more do you want, huh?
Well she’s a casual composer and singer as well, having co-penned a track, Posthuman, with ex Marilyn Manson, a track with electronic dance music artist BT called Superfabulous. How utterly Rose is that? And she belts out a couple of numbers in Grindhouse to boot!
She was also the face of Bebe clothing for a stint, but hey ho, with her strong features and unconventionally attractive visage, she could front anything.
The dangerous allure that is Rose McGowan, I’ll let her have the last few word: "I'm the kind of girl who can talk dirty, but who can't talk about talking dirty. I'll do anything, but if you ever mention it after the fact, I'll punch you."
"I've always admitted it: I'm a man with really nice breasts - I'm so guilty of doing every single male thing. Not calling, not showing up, leaving at four in the morning."
Rose, the style chameleon, the party glamour girl, the teaser, the charmer, the rock’n’fuckin’roller! Keep it comin' girl!

My other two faves, are the black and white polka dot bikini & hat and the moody "rouge noir" pic.
