Romance Was Born
July 18th 2007 00:21
There really was a rebirth of romance in the Australian Fashion scene, and this time it came in the form of the most delicious sparkly candy-coloured clothing line! Trust me though when I say that they're not just another luvy cutesy sparkly clothing brand, because they actually produce cool clothes! I'm just a little concerned.. as this is the second time for me to use the word delicious to describe clothes I see. And believe me, I've never eaten someone's outfit nor have I ever planned to.
It’s just that I find the clothes to be visually enticing because of their vibrant colours and unusual patterns. There is also an almost unexplainable sense of ‘contemporary’ coolness to their design aesthetics that makes them seem very up-to-date and cutting edge.
Some of you might find the clothes rather over-the-top because of the way they’re being mix matched in the photographs, but there is always an exception to every rule. And in this case the exception comes in the form of simplifying, which is basically incorporating their more colourful items with perhaps less colourful items off your own wardrobe
One of the main highlights of the brand’s progression in the fashion world would have to be their collaboration with Del Kathryn Barton, one of today’s finest contemporary Australian artists. Her drawing works have always been very thought-provoking because of their rather intricate method of integrating the human body and nature in such haunting, childish and yet beautiful manner.
A number of outfits have eye drawing prints on them which are very symbolic of Barton’s works. These eye drawings can also be seen on specially designed glasses that they produced for uhm.. jovial people, I suppose
In addition to the girls’ collections, here are some bits and pieces for the guys, which of course is equally superb.
I think I’d manage wearing those pair of blue shorts. They would be a pretty cool and somewhat ‘interesting’ party outfit, I might say. Well.. depends on what kind of party too obviously.
In spite of everything, ‘Romance was born’ is definitely growing in its range and achievements. Their creations have been worn by quite a few famous personalities including Lily Allen, Karen O of the ‘Yeah Yeah Yeahs’, Patience Hodgson of ‘The Grates’ and even Debbie Harry off ‘Blondie’!
So there you go.. I suppose all we can do now is just wait to see and enjoy what’s coming next from this wonderfully innovative Australian brand!

In terms of adventurous and avaunt guarde fashion I like Romance was Born, particularly the installation they had at the Surry Hills Orson and Blake earlier this year but I'll confess my sartorial bravery doesn't extend quite that far.
