Will a Credit Free society Force out Fashion for the Common Man/Women?
Before and After?
As we all wait anxiously to see what the next move will be by the US to attempt to rescue a crumbling western economical system, the idea of opulent glamour and extravagant wardrobes seems to be akin to wearing a fur coat at a PETA meeting.
The way it used to work, cash for product
Sure we will recover from this rather huge misstep but fear and speculation are the foundations of the western market. The effects may well come through in retail spending, especially with the certainty that our liquid credit card driven culture is going to have to learn to save for what it wants instead of using the plastic on a whim.
So how will this affect the average income earner with a fashionistas dreams? Clothes and accessories are an expensive addiction. If we define ourselves by what we wear, what happens when the spontaneity needs to be curbed according to actual, real world cash flow?
A virtual economy
Even this somewhat frugal writer sometimes splurges on a pair of sneakers, shirt or pants as an impulse buy, fully aware that at the end of the month the money is not going to be there to cover the bank statement when it arrives.
So how about you readers, what do you think will happen to a fashion driven culture when the only thing you can buy is what you can afford?
