Ooh La La! Parisian Ballets

Website Name: www.parisianballets.com
Location: Sydney, Australia
Category: Ballet Flats
Rating: 4 out of 5 (Beautiful shoes but purchasing is a little cumbersome)
Ever imagine that you're living in a different time? A time where men were chivalrous, everyone dressed up whenever they left the house and Audrey Hepburn was the current "It" girl? Where you could walk down the Champs Elysee without being bombarded with American chain stores and dog poo, but instead enjoy a coffee and croissant with grace and aplomb? No? Just me?
I'm sure many of you have felt the same way, given the current popularity of retro dressing, and indeed, our love for the ballet flat that won't go away. It has edged its way back into our modern wardrobe and due to our quest for every day style (and our search for an end to the lower back pain caused by stilettos) its here to stay.
Enter stage left, Serena Quinn, Sydney's creator of the quintessential chic shoe, Parisian Ballets. When you head your webby way over to www.parisianballets.com, you're met several beautiful pairs of ballet flats, and the image of our beloved Audrey Hepburn, the 20th century icon of the ballet flat. The site is sweet and small, indeed like a pair of the shoes themselves.
The site is easy to navigate, the hardest part is choosing which design stream to get a squiz at first. The current range of Ballerina Pumps includes some metallics, while other ranges include exotics, and there is even a wedding category for brides who wish to have dainty but non-heeled shoes with their gown.
To match current nautical and denim based trends, you can purchase a pair in Polka Dots, Navy or Red. For those of you who prefer a more boho feel, you can find something in the exotic range, with a cool Tahitian style print, black velvets, leopard print, hessian and the beautiful oriental style as shown below.
For flashy effect, there is a range with sequins, for those interested in different materials, in the casual range you can find flats created with denim, and even bamboo (there is also a couple of clutches available made from bamboo on the site). The city range is purely leather based, but comes in a range of colours with pretty trim. Ideal for the working day when you're just not into wearing heels.
My personal favourite, is from the casual range, in simple cotton "Chinoiserie", appropriately titled "Ruby". It is such a sweet and simple shoe, conjures images of yesteryear, and I can imagine wearing these with a funky pair of capris and a boat necked top while riding a bike with a baguette in my basket.
Purchasing from the site is a little tricky. Whilst they are not a full e-commerce site, you can buy online, using a PayPal credit card system where you are billed. You can also purchase via fax and phone, and there is a wholesale purchase form if you wish to stock Serena's treasures in your own store. Within the site there is unfortunately little information on any delivery, returns or refunds policies, nor further information or FAQ's for those who need reassurance.
While you will pay slightly more for a pair of Parisian Ballets than you would at a regular chain store, you will know the difference when you own them. They are cute, they are dainty, they are elegant, and they are delightful, and you're guaranteed a mention from any other female with a heartbeat and a twinkle in their eye when you wear them.
Grab your tutu gorgeous pair of shoes (sorry....couldn't help myself) and head out for un cafe au lait and have a gossip with some girlfriends, or get discovered by a model scout while you're out at brunch by Le Tour Eiffel.
Vive les ballet flats!
