Oh Louis, why???

Occasionally a designer will “design” (and I use the term loosely) something that will really grind my gears, something that makes me shake my head and think “why in the world would anyone spend thousands of dollars on that??”
The latest to do just that was Marc Jacobs (who I usually love) for Louis Vuitton with his East West Tati bag pictured below (pictures are courtesy of Style.com) from the Spring 2007 Ready-To-Wear collection.
Ok, seriously who are they trying to kid? IT’S A SHOPPING BAG. One of those crappy plastic things you get from two dollar stores in Chinatown. It’s NOT fashion!
But apparently if you hand-weave it from the finest Italian leather and stick a Louis passport-stamp monogram on it, you can still charge $3700. Give me a break! Sarah Mower from Style.com described it as “funny”, I call it tragic.
No wonder so many people are disillusioned with fashion when this is the best one of the most luxurious handbag designers in the world can come up with. What a total joke.
Can’t wait to see what Louis will have in store for us next season. $5000 pearl-encrusted cardboard boxes? Maybe a garbage bag crafted from hand-printed silk. We can only hope...
