New York Fashion Week Peaks

NYC Fashion Week 2008
In the fashion calendar few events compete with the sheer opulence, showmanship and cache of New York’s famed Fashion Week.
Sponsored by Mercedes Benz the globes fashion elite feverishly descend upon the over populated city with a reputation for its single minded attitude. The prestigious event attracts glitz, glamour and celebrities with an efficiency that rivals the best Movie Premiere’s.
This year has been no different and with the festival officially opened, underway there has been plenty on the catwalk display to inspire.
According to TheWashingtonPost.com the Rock Style is dominating proceedings, “form-fitting, hard-edged and back in black after a year of mostly Gray”. My question is when did that particular wardrobe choice ever leave the limelight?
A groupie slinking black dress is never hard to find on a Friday night, nor is some dude deliberately edgy black suit.
Reporting on Sunday’s affairs, The Washington post writes:
“Max Azria brought back the bandage look of Herve Leger and outfitted rock starlets Joss Stone and Mandy Moore in the signature style in his front row. Rock & Republic turned for inspiration to the underworld and deep purple (the color, not the band).
Meanwhile, DKNY evoked a relaxed '70s glamour, while Diane von Furstenberg turned to the 1940s and Tracy Reese chose a ladylike look.
The rock look has been evident since the start of New York Fashion Week, when Nicole Miller veered away from pretty cocktail dresses and invited Joan Jett into her front row.”
TV stars like Hayden Petrie star of Heroes, Brooke Shields and Ugly Betty’s Anna Ortiz have all graced the bulbs of flashing lights. It all wraps up on February 8th and sounds like it would have been a fun sware, shame it’s on the other side of the world.
Here is some footage from the Rock and Republic Exhibit.
