Laetitia Casta

"I don't believe in God, but when I see Laetitia, I might change my mind."
--- Fashion design icon Vivienne Westwood
Hands down, legs down, face down … in fact, lay everything on the floor, Ms Casta is arguably one of the most beautiful supermodels to grace the fashion magazines, catwalks, catalogues, even on the silver screen (she plays the voluptuous Falbala in the French live action Asterix & Obelix vs. Caesar).
Not only does she epitomise natural beauty, she, well, epitomises perfection. Easily France’s sexiest export since Tabitha Cash, but Cash played in a hardcore league. Laetitia Casta has both literally and figuratively broken the waif mold that the supermodel kingdom has been dominated by for decades.
Born May 11, 1978 in Pont-Audemer, France, Laetitia (Latin for “joy”) Maria Laure Casta is the daughter of father Dominique and mother Line, and was raised on the isle of Corsica.
She was discovered, aged 15, by a photographer and an agent from an important Paris modeling agency, Madison Models, while lying on a beach near Corsica.
After her father finally agreed to the agency taking some test photos of Laetitia, it took the founder of Madison Models no time to see her unmistakable potential. She arrived at the photo shoot with no make-up, dressed just in jeans and a T-shirt. Keepin’ it real Laetita.
Modeling contracts and appearances in magazines quickly ensued. In 1993 Paul Marciano, founder and art director of Guess? was immediately taken by Laetitia's stunning looks.
In 1996 came her work with the Victoria's Secret catalogue where she featured as one of the Angels, the name attributed to the other four models of the company.
From 1997 to 2000 Laetitia joined the ranks of fellow models by appearing in the popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
One year later she was honored by Rolling Stone magazine which named her the hottest model of the year, and placed a nude Laetitia on the cover of their "Hot" issue.
Her appearance in the collectors Pirelli calendar can also be considered one of Laetitia's more exclusive accomplishments, along with her controversial multi-million dollar semi-nude ad campaign with e-tailer Diamonds.com.
Laetitia has over 100 major magazine covers to her credit, including very lucrative and high-profile advertisements for L'Oreal, Yves St. Laurent, Ralph Lauren, and Revlon.
One of the biggest highlights of Laetitia's career has been her relationship with designer Yves St. Laurent. The designer has considered Laetitia an inspiration since 1998, and consequently the outfits she wears to public appearances are all personal Yves St. Laurent creations.
She ventured into music video when she appeared in the stylish Chris Isaak video for Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing shot by fashion/celebrity photographer Herb Ritts.
And here it is:
In 1999, Laetitia was honored by her native country when she was chosen by French mayors to appear on French coins and stamps for 10 years, as the image of Marianne (embodiment of the French Republic), an honor formerly held by Brigitte Bardot.
It seems Laetita has gone into semi-retirement from appearing in the world's most prestigious publications. Apart from more acting work she has embraced the role of motherhood, having a son (born 2001) and daughter (born 2006).
Laetitia feels that her experience with Judo (she has a brown belt) has helped her in her modeling career to have control, to set limits for herself, to not be aggressive and to think with her mind not with her emotions.
I know I’d spar with Laetitia day or night.

The fur bikini and "gone native" pics are from the SI Swimsuit issue, about 9 years ago (?) I remember her editorial well...she is just divine and her body...oh my God...keep your stick thin insect coathangers...this is a body of a woman.
(and come on..."wonky teeth"??...woah...you're picky)

thankyou for bestowing your presence here at my Orble Fashion post on the Gaelic Goddess ... or as I affectionately call it; The Casta Club.
I'm tempted to watch the Asterix & Obelix movie, but I reticent about hearing voices put to characters I grew up with! Still, it's Laetitia I'd be watching it for ...
She simply can't look bad. No matter what light or clothes she is in.
