The Blue Genes of Birth Right

Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann
Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann

It was announced in 2006 that Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann is the new spokesmodel for Lancôme's cosmetics. She may not be a household name but her lineage is of the highest fashion pedigree. You see Elettra is the the daughter of actress/model, Euro-femme Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet) and former model turned Microsoft guru Jonathan Wiedemann. Her grandparents are silver screen goddess Ingrid Bergman (Casablanca, Notorious) and Italian Master Director Roberto Rossellini.

Coincidently (or maybe not) her mother Isabella was the face of the cosmetics giant Lancôme' for 14 years before her age dictated dismissal. Born in 1983 the 5 ft 11 inch Elettra suffered her mothers debilitating health problem Scoliosis as a child. The condition saw here wearing a neck brace from the time she was 12 to 17.

A face of character

Environmentally conscious she pro-actively sought to incorporate “green” initiatives as part of her role with Lancome after learning about the “Carbon Free” fight for the planet.

From an article in Vanity Fair May 2007:
"They calculate your carbon footprint, and how many trees it would take to neutralize your carbon emissions," Elettra explains. "I was shocked when I realized how many trees it took to zero out my emissions. I hope this will encourage other people to take a look at their carbon footprints and start thinking about ways they can reduce their emissions."

The Eco–chic product that finally got her excited about working for the cosmetics giant is their Primordial Cell Defence, an anti oxidant that protects the skin from the ravages of pollution and UV rays.

A star on the rise and certain to “make a difference” in the world, Elettra is fashion royalty with a mind. Keep an eye out because I’m certain her profile will increase and she may well end up as a dominant force in the industry.

The size of the size zero debate

September 27th 2007 07:25
The size zero debate is the new black, the latest fashion trend, which, like all fads, is probably not wise to buy (into) too much. I am not saying that the emaciated idealisation of the female body is not a problem, but that the media and public response is on the side of hysteria. For some perspective on my perspective, it should be known that I am not a size zero. I am not six foot tall, and I do not know anyone that has come under the attack of this new moralizing discourse.

Ultra thin is not 'in' (LINK)

September 15th 2007 15:16
There was a time when a woman's wealth was recognized by her rubenesque figure. Today Paris Hilton lookalikes are revered and every womens magazine don't print without them. Governments around the world are now taking action to address the unrealistic body image expectations placed upon the worlds modelling industry. The Australian Fashion Council hosted a forum in March to discuss and debate whether or not industry guidelines are necessary to discourage the use of extraordinarily thin models on Australian runways and to ensure the health and wellbeing of Young Australians working as fashion models.

More importantly it raises the discussion that Designers and media have an ethical obligation to set the right role models for the youth of today
