Hail Bjork!
July 14th 2007 02:02
Still touring endlessly, the 41 year old Icelandic musician doesn't seem to be showing any sign of slowing down. And why should she? After the long awaited release of her latest amazingly-innovative album 'Volta', everything only seems like the beginning for this inspiring woman.
At some point, her new album reached number 9 in the ‘U.S. Billboard 200’ Chart while Kelly Clarkson’s came just before her at number 10! It really is a remarkable achievement for an avant-garde musician, don’t you think?
This is perhaps due to her latest collaboration with Timbaland, the famous R&B record producer and rapper that recently collaborated with Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and the Pussycat Dolls! So it’s understandable that people are wondering what kind of creation can come out of these 2 great musicians with slightly-opposing style.
Speaking of style, remember the swan dress that she wore to the Academy Awards in 2001? Well I guess who doesn’t? It’s just that Björk herself is surprised that journalists are still talking about it today. It’s been 6 years for goodness’ sake! Why can’t they talk about her new fashion style which seems to be more colourful and fun? As it’s obvious that this whole new energy seems to show clearly the state her psyche that appears to be in a much better place.
Björk released a remix album project in 2005 in which she donated £250,000 of the album sales to UNICEF to help Tsunami victims in South East Asia. She then visited Indonesia in February 2006 to see for herself the development of UNICEF's work with children who were affected by the disastrous tragedy.
This journey is what greatly inspired her with the first single of the new album titled ‘Earth Intruders’. She sings, “There is turmoil out there.. Carnage! Rambling! What is to do but dig.. Dig bones out of earth..”
She really is happier and more grateful, in fact, she’s on a mission to spread happiness and goodness! A mission that might seem impossible in this day and age. But oh well, what’s wrong with being happier anyway? The world today is filled with catastrophes, why not try to fill our own lives with ‘happier’ things? Like listening to Bjork’s new album, perhaps? ;-P
