Category: Hand-made Jewellery
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (insanely beautiful jewellery and solid philosophy, but I think I’d like to see a few more pieces to choose from)

OK, Girls Made This is not a shop, per se. It’s more a collective, a group, a co-operative of gifted craftspeople who have banded together, lead by long time designer and self confessed sewing machine destroyer, Jane Corcoran. The beneficiaries of the initiative are women; clever, crafty chicks who can make cool stuff. It’s an environment to help nurture artistic talent and provide an appropriate platform for appreciators and creators to meet. A sound philosophy which has lead to the invention of some unique and alluring pieces that would befit any forward-thinking fashionista.
With some pieces of jewellery tantalisingly placed on their home page, you are lead into a world of truly scrumptious girly treats, which includes Jane Corcoran’s own brand ‘oneofone’. Also featured are other talented artists such as Tiffany Shafran, and the Japanese meets modern art style from label ‘Akina’ by Lang Leav. Currently the collection includes many sweet and feminine pieces, which combine influence from pop art with a deco disposition. Each piece is hand-made; ensure you order in advance, as you are looking at around a 2 week lead time. If you do wish to purchase something as a matter of urgency, the site lists their stockists throughout Australia.
From the navigation pane, you can click to see recent press releases and magazine features. There is a shop for “public access” where you can pick up the current lines, and a members only “sale” section. It’s fairly easy to become a member though, just make sure you fill out all the fields in their sign up form and you’re set!
There are several pendants of different shapes and sizes listed accordingly, even a double-sided customisable version to include art on one side and a picture of a loved one on the other. Rings are thankfully re-sizable, and do note that some pendants are sold separately to the chain, which you can also purchase through the site.
Items are made from sterling silver and a combination of paper and resin (in most cases). There are details on the site about caring for your delicate piece of art, as well as information on flaws you may expect due to it being crafted individually.
Purchasing on line is simple, the e-commerce back-end support is cleverly outsourced to ‘eknowhow’ who are a fast growing web hosting company based in Australia. You can make a lot of different postage choices; express being one of them so that you will have your jewellery as soon as possible.
As well as the aforementioned designers, there is also a limited edition range from “See Jane”. These include characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and “The Little White Horse” range inspired by the book by Elizabeth Goudge soon to be made into a feature film. These girly pendants will prove irresistible to the fantasy princesses out there. You know who you are....!
The jewellery available seems soooooo special. A lot strongly references vintage, with cameo designs included and the pieces having an overall classic appeal. They almost look too good to wear, but they certainly look like something you will keep and appreciate for the years to come. If you take good care of them, perhaps it will become the 21st century heirloom for gen x mums to hand down to their girls.
As stated on their site.......“Let the treasure hunt begin”

I think the Vintage birds pendant (square or round) is something any girl would treasure forever... and your friend is lucky to have you as a friend if you treat her to one.
Hope all's well with you, Happy (solar and lunar) New Year to you.
