Naomi Campbell's Pleasures

naomi Campbell
Naomi Campbell, eyes on fashion.

Over the weekend the Chicago Tribune contacted supermodel turned celebrity target Naomi Campbell and milked out a list of her “10 Favourite Things”.

As famous for her tantrums and diva attitude as for her obvious physical appeal on the catwalk. Naomi Campbell has modelled for most all the prestigious Fashion Houses and her portfolio reads like a dream list of style.

Afforded the choice of opulent luxury and jet set lifestyle, what does the fiery Amazon rank as the 10 greatest delights of life?

From the Chicago Tribune:

1. Garrett's Popcorn in Chicago: I stood in line and it was worth it.

2. Vintage clothes: I like the 1930s. My favorite London shops are Pearl Lowe, who makes dresses out of vintage fabrics, and Steinberg and Tolkien. In New York, Resurrection and Southpaw Vintage Clothing.

3. Goldeneye Resort, Jamaica: I was born in England but my family is from Jamaica. I have a house there.

4. Blahnik, Louboutin, Alaia and Marc Jacobs shoes: I never wear anything shorter than a 4-inch heel.

5. James Taffin de Givenchy jewelry: It looks very old but not cluttered or big.

6. Coffee mousse facials: I get them at Mario Badescu in New York City.

7. Prince: He is just a genius.

8. "Ask and It Is Given." A book that simply but eloquently talks about universal laws of attraction.

9. Anna Wintour: She is such a powerful woman in fashion. It is a wonderful position for a woman to be in.

10. Cooking: There's nothing I like to do more than cook a big meal with friends and family. I make great jerk Cornish hens.

An interesting list that reveals a range of interests and by default NC rules of glamour and life philosophy. I can only imagine the “4 Inch Heel” commandment raises its own logistical nightmares. And yes “Garrett’s Popcorn” is that good!

We have all seen the power of the stylist. Before we knew it, Hollywood stylist Rachel Zoe had Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie and Jessica Simpson all sporting drapey gowns over wispy thin bodies. One journalist touts that its only since Celebrities and Designers realised that revenue could be bought in from red carpet photographs, that the Stylist has forged a position in society on par to a Publicist and Celebrity Manager. They are THE ultimate accessory and Celebrities today dont leave home without them.

A new super power has emerged with the baby boom among CEO's, Supermodels and Hollywood's A-List - having on call one's very own Parisian Baby Stylist. I had the pleasure of catching up with the name in every starlets Little Black Book - Laetitia Lerouge

More Mouret

July 5th 2007 08:28
Only a few posts ago I was bemoaning the lack Roland Mouret in my life after that galaxy dress (worn rather well by Demi Moore). But Style.com has informedme that he has returned, view their article here.

And here's my favourites of the aforementioned collection

In this rainy wintry weather looking at Junya Watanabe’s men’s collection in Milan I was reminiscing about college. For those of you unfamiliar with the Canberra education system, years 11 and 12 at public schools are called colleges, are located on their own grounds, have no uniforms and the teachers are called by their first names. There’s no HSC, assessment is close to the university system and generally they’re far nicer places to be. Anyway when I was at college the boys used to dress like this, themselves nostalgic for some sort of 80s punky/motorcycle rider style.

Daria Werbowy: Canadian Amazon

Daria Werbowy
From Dariawerbowy.org

Pictured here all fresh faced and delightful is Daria Werbowy of Canada. Werbowy, like Jessica Stam, passes my knee test (if the thigh is wider than the knee then the model is not sick) and not only that but she exhibits an intelligence one may not expect from models. Maybe she’s simply learned to feign intent with those blue eyes of hers, or perhaps I’m prejudiced because she’s brunette but I do think there’s something more in Werbowy’s brain than is usually held in the mind of a model

In my habitual internet trawlings I came across quite a feat on the Prada website. Admittedly I didn’t much like this season’s collection but the means by which it is represented is a true cultural document. Prada demonstrates wit, self-reflexivity and pastiche in a way that many other ‘postmodernists’ should envy. As a European luxury brand, descended from a grand tradition to a commercial reality, Prada is a modern day icon but the self-representation offers an entirely new perspective on the brand.

Gucci sucks

June 13th 2007 00:43
Just about anyone with any style steers clear of Gucci on the whole and their Autumn/Winter 07 collection only affirms that general principle. Let’s take a look at some examples.

One of the most striking models of the contemporary brat pack is Jessica Stam, a statuesque Canadian who has the kind of natural physique required for catwalk shows. She is indeed long and slender but there is nothing painful about the proportions of her legs or the position of her clavicle. My general rule is that if the knee is wider than the thigh there’s a problem but Stam is in proportion as you can see from the Stella McCartney show.

Balenciaga, Vernacular Fashion

Gemma Ward Balenciaga
From Style.com
After using Balenciaga as an example in my white shirt post I remembered what a stand-out collection Nicolas Ghesquière produced for Fall 2007 collection and I was reminded by our very own (why are we so patriotic when it comes to beautiful people) Gemma Ward wearing Balenciaga at Cannes.
