Tara Moss on the Attack

At 35 Tara Moss has already lived a glamorous and varied life. A report on news.com.au says that now the Canadian born Australian is returning to the runways after a decade hiatus that saw her reinvented as a best selling crime Novelist.

A double threat, the beautiful and intelligent Tara has chosen to collaborate with Alex Perry ensuring her comeback is a high profile fashion event. Headlining the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Parade to be held in Sydney on August 12th, this is only the start of the next wave of her promising career.

In an interview with Confidential she says "Next year is the big one for me - I have two TV projects in development in Hollywood at the moment and I'm really going after it,"

Putting her divorce to Mark Pernell in the past she looks vibrant and stunning posing in front of a collection of Alex Perry wedding gowns for the headline picture above. From news.com.au, "Standing in front of those wedding dresses today I was very happy to be wearing black."

A rolling Tara gathers no Moss. Aside from writing and modelling Tara is enthusiastic about charity work and earned the moniker UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2007. I have always been a fan of Moss and though she never really left the public eye with TV series like National Geographic’s Tara Moss Investigates, this recently single independent woman seems to now be on rise like never before.

The Fashion targets breast Cancer parade opens the Rosemount Sydney fashion Festival. For more information visit the official site by following the link provided.

A whole new genre

October 2nd 2007 10:20
Galliano's last catwalk show for his own label was brash brazen bordehlo but this season for Dior he's shifted from the door-jambs of Paris to the silver-screens of Hollywood, invoking screen sirens and sirs across eras, genders and genres.

Ode to an Italian Dress

DOlce and Gabbana Summer 08 PAINTED BLACK DRESS
All images from http://eng.dolcegabbana.it

Flamboyant and theatrical, Dolce and Gabbana’s Summer 2008 collection is indeed replete with works of art. From the hand-painted fabrics, the obsession with intricate embellishments and details to the matte velvet lips, D & G invoke a Keats-ian realm - instead of a Grecian urn, this is my ode to an Italian dress

Who's Hot for Summer 08

Forget the unwearable items you see strutting down some fashion runways, european fashion speaks to the sillhouette and moves us back to the real aim of fashion - expressing ourselves AND flattering our body shape

For Australian residents, you’re probably hiding under a rock if you didn’t see any coverage over the last few weeks of the David Jones and Myer Spring/Summer launch shows. Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins were parading their respective stores’ wares and championing this season’s trends, sycophantically surrounded by media, buyers and designers alike.

J'adore Dior

July 20th 2007 08:20
I realise I’m running a little behind the couture shows but I am grasping the moment because, as the title indicates, my infatuation with Dior continues, exacerbated by Galliano’s recent designs for their couture show.

Couture is the aesthetic height of the fashion industry epitomising Oscar Wilde’s motto: “art for art’s sake”. Certainly some of the dresses are sold but couture is a millstone round the ankle of fashion houses as far as profit is concerned. The hours and effort spend to make each dress are Herculean, the expense of fabric and beading utterly Olympian (as in the Mount not the games

More Mouret

July 5th 2007 08:28
Only a few posts ago I was bemoaning the lack Roland Mouret in my life after that galaxy dress (worn rather well by Demi Moore). But Style.com has informedme that he has returned, view their article here.

And here's my favourites of the aforementioned collection

Daria Werbowy: Canadian Amazon

Daria Werbowy
From Dariawerbowy.org

Pictured here all fresh faced and delightful is Daria Werbowy of Canada. Werbowy, like Jessica Stam, passes my knee test (if the thigh is wider than the knee then the model is not sick) and not only that but she exhibits an intelligence one may not expect from models. Maybe she’s simply learned to feign intent with those blue eyes of hers, or perhaps I’m prejudiced because she’s brunette but I do think there’s something more in Werbowy’s brain than is usually held in the mind of a model

In my habitual internet trawlings I came across quite a feat on the Prada website. Admittedly I didn’t much like this season’s collection but the means by which it is represented is a true cultural document. Prada demonstrates wit, self-reflexivity and pastiche in a way that many other ‘postmodernists’ should envy. As a European luxury brand, descended from a grand tradition to a commercial reality, Prada is a modern day icon but the self-representation offers an entirely new perspective on the brand.

Gucci sucks

June 13th 2007 00:43
Just about anyone with any style steers clear of Gucci on the whole and their Autumn/Winter 07 collection only affirms that general principle. Let’s take a look at some examples.

One of the most striking models of the contemporary brat pack is Jessica Stam, a statuesque Canadian who has the kind of natural physique required for catwalk shows. She is indeed long and slender but there is nothing painful about the proportions of her legs or the position of her clavicle. My general rule is that if the knee is wider than the thigh there’s a problem but Stam is in proportion as you can see from the Stella McCartney show.

Balenciaga, Vernacular Fashion

Gemma Ward Balenciaga

After using Balenciaga as an example in my white shirt post I remembered what a stand-out collection Nicolas Ghesquière produced for Fall 2007 collection and I was reminded by our very own (why are we so patriotic when it comes to beautiful people) Gemma Ward wearing Balenciaga at Cannes.
