Vintage Fashion show Footage

Vintage fashion
The early 1900's

There is something magical and indeed timeless about vintage fashion and watching this collection of clips made me realize that certain clothes remain chic, regardless of dictated styles.

Vintage 60s fashion
Welcome to the 1960's

First up we have some catwalk newsreel footage from Italy in 1961. Showing off the latest in foreign styles from Asia and abroad, this exhibition of stylish designs has since made its way into western concepts.

Here we have a Vintage Christian Dior show from 1967 featuring the elite fashion house’s latest catalogue being modelled. The pieces are inspired by African cultural dress and again much of what we see here has been expanded on since and adopted by the globe.

Exceptionally rare this video is from 1917 and though it has an intrusive commentating track the visuals are nostalgic gold. This is a window into another time and place, the foundations for how we adorn ourselves in the millennium.

This next montage is sketches of French fashion trends in 1803. The lines and contours snugly hugging the body while offering complete discretion.

Glimpsing the evolution of chic itself is always exciting and I find myself more and more fascinated with the way clothes reflect an era and a cultural attitude.

Thanks you to Victoriana magazine for assembling these clips and please visit their site for more of the same.

From Viviennewestwood.com

After visiting the Victoria and Albert exhibition which travelled to the National Gallery in Canberra a few years ago, I’ve been obsessed with Vivienne Westwood. It’s not just that she’s sixty and has a beautiful thirty-year-old Italian lover, although that does impress me, and it’s not just that she’s been an inspiration for generations of fashionistas, mostly it’s because for Westwood, fashion is thought

Black is invariably the new black

Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy
From photobucket.com

Although Coco Chanel was really the first to bring the black dress into the everyday wardrobe of the modern woman, its place was indeed cemented with Hepburn’s appearance in Givenchy during Breakfast at Tiffany (see Sisi's post) last year for more on that dress
