Designer Profile: Kit WIllow

Willow, by Melbourne-based designer Kit Willow, was launched in May 2003 at Australian Fashion Week. Her debut collection of luxurious lingerie with delicate jewelled straps was the talk of the show and a big hit with fashion editors and buyers alike.
Since then Willow has extended into all forms couture, from corseted gowns (harking back to her lingerie influences) to tailored jackets to light-as-air bohemian tops. Mixing soft, billowing fabrics with intricate hand-worked metallic and beaded details, Willow has created a label known for opulence, while still being extremely wearable. Unexpected dashes of colour (such as the bright orange of her Primary Elements collection) add depth to the milky whites and silvery beiges that often dominate her collections.
Boasting such celebrity fans such as Nicole Kidman, Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth and Cameron Diaz, Willow is clearly one of the hottest Australian labels going around. You may remember her “Dream of a Dress” range for Portmans last year which was just gorgeous. While the label continues to be stocked in over 80 department stores and boutiques across the world, expect to hear a lot more about Willow.
