Technology and Fashion begin to merge.

Techno Fashion
In the new millennium we have become more and more reliant on gadgets, gizmos and technological breakthroughs. Not to be left behind the fashion world has also began embracing the trend by merging clothing with our electronic friends.
Traditional materials like cotton, wool and Gortex are now being replaced by fibre optic threads that compliment the wearer’s passion for portable sound, vision and data.
From sgmag.com
“Burton Snowboards and Apple® unveiled a new way to ride-the world's first and only wearable electronic jacket with an integrated iPod(tm) control system. The Burton Amp and Apple's iPod together make it effortless for snowboarders and other active users to control their music from right on the sleeve of their jacket without fumbling with zippers, gloves or pockets. The Burton Amp jacket is designed for use with Apple's 5GB, 10GB or 20GB iPod.”
Over on gadgetshop.com they have a wi-fi detector shirt.
“In the future, all t-shirts will be made this way, for wearable technology is very much the shape of things to come. But now the future is coming to a torso near you, and sooner than you think, thanks to the uniquely wickedly superbly brilliant Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirts.
The Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirt is a minor technological miracle, in the form of a fashionably black t-shirt. It looks like the common or garden variety beloved of rock musicians and advertising types, until the Wi-Fi Detecting modification is enabled and your chest is transmogrified into a digital display panel bearing the current strength of Wi-Fi in your immediate vicinity. Superb.
The technology at the heart of the Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirt is a fully functional Electro Luminescence Panel - or EL for short - that practically lights up like Piccadilly Circus, turning itself into a Wi-Fi Detecting unit on your command.
But here's your dilemma. Is it a t-shirt that thinks it's a Wi-Fi Detector? Or a Wi-Fi Detector that thinks it's a t-shirt? Only you will know for sure. It's a conversational opener with the ladies, too - and beats the pants off that old Homer Simpson t-shirt you keep wearing. Just be sure to disconnect the battery before washing...”
These are just two examples of what I’m talking about, and many more can be found about the net. So how long do you think it will be before the more prestigious fashion houses embrace this next step in clothing design and integrate the technology into their haute couture range?
Maybe one day we will have smart clothes that allow the user to change the colours of fabric with ease. Perhaps a mini skirt that doubles as a perv detector would be more practical?
