I know I am not alone in my appreciation for the exciting designs of Alexander McQueen. There is a distinct sensuality to all his wardrobes that has made the name synonymous with cool, daring outfits.

Demanding the spotlight with precisely contoured lines that lead the eye to intriguing cuts and hems, McQueen is a celebrity of fashion. His exhibitions and shows are exuberant and notoriously theatrical, boldly courting controversies that have some labelling him “The Holligan of English fashion.”

Born Lee Alexander McQueen in 1969, the future mogul chose his fate at a young age while designing dresses for his 3 sisters. Not scholastically minded, he left school at 16 to become an apprenticeship as a tailor on Savile Row. Working for several established names his clientele included Mikhail Gorbachev and Prince Charles.

The size of the size zero debate

September 27th 2007 07:25
The size zero debate is the new black, the latest fashion trend, which, like all fads, is probably not wise to buy (into) too much. I am not saying that the emaciated idealisation of the female body is not a problem, but that the media and public response is on the side of hysteria. For some perspective on my perspective, it should be known that I am not a size zero. I am not six foot tall, and I do not know anyone that has come under the attack of this new moralizing discourse.
