Laura Dundovic misses out on Miss Universe

Miss universe 2008
A bevvy of .... well you know

"We, the young women of the universe, believe people everywhere are seeking peace, tolerance and mutual understanding. We pledge to spread this message in every way we can, wherever we go."The Miss Universe Creed

Back in May 2008 Laura Dondovitch beat out 28 other hopefuls to win the title Miss Universe Australia. This entitled her to compete in the global beauty pageant that is Miss Universe, held in Vietnam.

Making it all the way into the Final 10 contestants, it looked like Laura had a chance of replicating Jennifer Hawkins 2004 success but it was not to be. Taking out the title on July 13th was Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza, beating out the top 5 contestants from Russia, the Dominican Republic, Columbia and Mexico.

Miss Venuzuela Crowned goddess

Looking beautiful may be a prerequisite but the coveted Miss Universe crown is a swimwear/nightgown tiara that carries charitable responsibility and diplomatic demands. Concentrating on poise, politeness and personality in its final stages of competition, the superficial accolade actually holds some merit.

The ceremony this year was hosted by low brow shockmeister Jerry Springer and ex Spice bimbo Mel B, catering to the billion strong viewership that tuned into the televised event.

According to the press release the winners crown is valued at $120,000, made of 18 karat white and yellow gold and is comprised of more than 1,000 precious stones, including 555 white diamonds, 375 cognac diamonds, 10 smoky quartz crystals and 19 morganite gemstones.

Ultra thin is not 'in'

September 15th 2007 15:16
There was a time when a woman's wealth was recognized by her rubenesque figure. Today Paris Hilton lookalikes are revered and every womens magazine don't print without them. Governments around the world are now taking action to address the unrealistic body image expectations placed upon the worlds modelling industry. The Australian Fashion Council hosted a forum in March to discuss and debate whether or not industry guidelines are necessary to discourage the use of extraordinarily thin models on Australian runways and to ensure the health and wellbeing of Young Australians working as fashion models.

More importantly it raises the discussion that Designers and media have an ethical obligation to set the right role models for the youth of today

Tristan Blair - What Else!

September 11th 2007 17:56
It's fair to say after trawling boutique after fabulous boutique in this beautiful city, there is noone aside from Massarro of course, who quite puts the same shine on a pair of shoes than Australian Designer Tristan Blair.

He is elusive, demure and completely humble about his creativity. I once attempted to help him source a shoe manufacturer in Brazil. He had become great friends with a man and his chicken in Bali and was loathe to change. Given my experiences in working with Brazilian timeframes I can understand why. Nothing quite happens fast enough in that country. Needless to say in a Summer that sports cotton candy and casual style you cant go past his new collection "Wonderful Armour

One of the most striking models of the contemporary brat pack is Jessica Stam, a statuesque Canadian who has the kind of natural physique required for catwalk shows. She is indeed long and slender but there is nothing painful about the proportions of her legs or the position of her clavicle. My general rule is that if the knee is wider than the thigh there’s a problem but Stam is in proportion as you can see from the Stella McCartney show.
