Fashion blogging, like most other blogging provides a forum for otherwise unqualified opinionators, like me. That is, except in the case of The Sartorialist whose blog has been listed by Time as one of the top 100 design influences. His images appear on Style.com and in Vanity Fair and his pithy comments and street shots are indeed a cultural record. He balances the male and female shots and favours the quirky or unconventional, those who don’t just follow trends but help create them. And his journeys to Berlin and Scandinavia, Milan and Paris provide a travel-poor Sydney-ite with the vicarious pleasure of the international flaneur.
Go fug yourself is a couple of girls who have a good time critiquing the fashion of Hollywood stars. It’s an amusing site but for some reason, unlike the Sartorialist, they don’t allow comments which I think defeats the purpose of blogging, the interactive element is one of the best facets of this format.
These last two aren't strictly blogs but the format is similar. One of my old favourites is Undressed on MSN.com. With copious alliteration and an overabundance of puns, this is fun fashion. Although I find their assessments too conservative on the whole and rarely finish the paragraphs which accompany each image I do still love to see their collation of celebrity fashion.
And another fashion digest I relish is the Vogue top ten best dressed on Style.com. There isn’t any commentary, just date, place and person details of the beautiful women and their frocks for the week. On the whole I think it’s a great selection and covers the major events of the week.
But Orble's where you see the really imaginative and ground-breaking fashion analysis so stay tuned.
