A recent visit to the UK saw Carla Bruni, France’s First lady elevated to iconic status with the help of her stylish Christian Dior wardrobe priced at 30,000 pounds. (Around AU$75000)
Beautiful, articulate and exuding confidence, her poise and grace have created a wave of positive press with her 36 hour whirlwind state visit. The telegraph.co.uk has labelled Bruni “French fashion’s Secret Weapon”. Comparison to Jackie O and Lady Di have also come from respected journals Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
No stranger to fashion, the now wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy was a model, singer/songwriter and heir to the CEAT tire fortune before marriage. The Italian born beauty hatched in 1967 became a catwalk vixen at 19 years old.
During her career the former face of Guess Jeans worked for many of the most prestigious fashion houses including Versace, Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint-Laurent.
At her peak Carla earned over 7 million dollars a year and dated the likes of Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and toupee lord Donald Trump.
Sparking controversy earlier this year when nude photo’s surfaced for sale at Christie’s auction it seems that Bruni has managed to use her glamorous past to positive effect.
Here are some highlights of Carla's catwalk work in the 90's
