Cannes again

Well the Palme D'or has been awarded (here’s to Romanian film) and the red carpet glitz is over but there's still time for one last analysis before these pictures become old news. Now Dita Von Teese has received quite a slice of publicity in Australia around our fashion week, and despite the entirely vapid interview she gave on Vogue.com.au I still quite like her. This dress is stunning and is perfectly complemented by her immaculate hairdo. Generally in her red carpet appearances, Teese manages to evoke sexuality rather than proclaim it.
Ellen Barkin’s latest role in Ocean’s 13 is providing yet more pressure on older women. Not only do they have to live up to Helen Mirren and her looks but Barkin is weighing in as well! This haircut looks far better on her than on Posh Becks and the dress is perfect old-style Hollywood glamour, in certain shots she could pass for a woman nearly half her age.
Maybe I should leave Mischa alone but I have some unspecified distaste for her. In a previous Cannes entry I suggested she looked too trashy however in this ensemble she achieves the reverse of Ellen Barkin and looks far older than her 20 or so years. Certainly she is long and slender but the overall ensemble is far too conservative and entirely masks any personality she may or may not have.
Eva Green is a perennial favourite because of her willingness to express aesthetics rather than simply trying for gorgeous, just look at her Oscars outfit for evidence. But this Dior Couture gown is exquisite, perfectly offset by her alabaster skin and ebony hair.
Proving that pale girls can wear silver, Gemma Ward brings her catwalk insouciance to the red carpet, and I think she looks fantastic.
Well that’s Cannes for another year, I have intentionally avoided a few of this year’s red carpet regulars. Toni Colette, I simply didn’t like anything you did and Claudia Schiffer, you could literally arrive in a paper bag with grease stains and look stunning.
