Australian Fashion Week Off and Running
April 30th 2007 12:29
Sydney has been hit with fashion fever as the country's most fashionable cats hit the city for a week of shows, parties and general frivolity.
Each day this week, I will be spotlighting my favourite show of that day.
Today's show was hands down, Camilla and Marc.
Camilla Freeman-Topper of Camilla and Marc told news.com.au that for them this season was about mixing the masculine with the feminine; delicate feminine fabrics with masculine silhouettes and vice versa.
This philosophy was clearly evident in their current collection which featured a myriad of detailed shift dresses topped with masculine tailored coats and anoraks.
Tonal colours were the ticket, occasionally off-set by electric blues and high sheen blacks.
They used a very interesting array of fabrics; tough masculine fabrics were combined with feminine lace and satin; patent leather and fine silk were used as a points of interest throughout.
All in all the collection was a firm and bold step forward for a label that is best known for ‘pretty’ fashion. And it really worked.
For a video of the show go here (and check out burlesque star Dita Von Teese who was in the front row)
Here are some of my favourite pieces from the show.
