Australian Fashion Week in Tatters?
April 25th 2007 04:59
Major designers, sass & bide, Alannah Hill, Charlie Brown, Akira Isogawa and Leona Edmiston will not be showing at next week's Australian Fashion Week
Kit Willow, who was originally going to launch her latest lingerie collection at a private show in a Sydney mansion, has lent a helping hand by agreeing to include her show under the AFW banner.
Many designers opted to show at Melbourne Fashion Week, which was open to the public, unlike the industry-only AFW. The timing of the up-coming New York Fashion Week was also an excuse for several designers including Alannah Hill.
I find this very disappointing, especially in sass & bide's case, who only pulled out from their show two days ago, truly leaving organisers in the lurch. I wonder, is this how they repay the Australian fashion industry for all their support over the years?
The Australian Fashion Week will be launched on April 20 by burlesque superstar, Dita Von Tesse at a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art and runs to May 4.
