79th Academy Awards Red Carpet
February 26th 2007 09:11
As you may know, the 79th Academy Awards took place last night in the US. And I couldn't help but write about the dazzling gowns that graced the Red Carpet, of course the most exciting part of the ceremony to any fashion fiend. So here's my top ten looks for the night...
In the number ten spot is Portia De Rossi in this lovely black Zac Posen gown. Although she's not my favourite celebrity, she does wear this dress very well. I love the plaiting running down the center of her back, and the curved seamlines around her booty. Her polished yet casual pony tail look great with the dress as it leaves the back exposed. Finished off with simple drop earings, I love this look!
Next would have to be the very sexy "The Departed" actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who was one of the many men on the carpet wearing Giorgio Armani. It seems peaked lapels are what's hot for the boys (and it's not hard to see why). I love the contrasting fabrics on the suit and the classic tie. Although he probably could have eased up on the hair gel...
The very sexy Dream Girl, Beyonce Knowles, also chose to wear Armani, and it's no suprise she looked amazing. The simple strapless gown has a beautiful beaded flower feature running over one shoulder, and Beyonce keeps it simple with sleek wavy hair and a bare chest and wrists. The mint green platforms are amazing!
Aussie girl Cate Blanchett wowed in another Armani number (it seems Mr. Armani has been busy, and without disappointment). The simple silhouette of this gown shimmers in Swarovski crystals (look closely, they're all over it!) The charcoal colour looks great with her porcelain skin, and I love the jewelled cuff on her wrist.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was a picture of Oscars elegance in this glamourous navy and black Proenza Schouler gown. The rouching around the waist and bust is carried over one shoulder (I'm sensing a trend here) which looks great with the sleek navy satin. The black detailing around the hem accentuates the train, which I absolutely love. She also wore a casual hair do, which was popular among the ladies on the night.
Clive Owen looked very handsome on the carpet, sporting a different version of the Armani jacket worn by Leo. He kept it slightly more casual, wearing only a pinstripe shirt and no tie.
The beautiful Jennifer Lopez and fiance Marc Antony looked great together, but J Lo definately stole the show in this Grecian inspired Marchese gown. I love the pale pink on her bronzed skin, and the jewelling around the neckline and under the bust. Her 1950's do looks great with the elegant gown. Marc Antony wore Dior Homme.
The second lovely lady to wear Zac Posen in my top ten is Gwyneth Paltrow. I love the radiating lines, the shape around the bust and the long train. And the colour! There wasn't another one like it. She also decided to keep it simple with a plain and polished out do, and I love the clashing red lipstick.
And number one on the Red Carpet had to be the very exotic beauty, Penelope Cruz. She dazzled in this pale pink strapless Versace gown, made from silk chiffon, organza and tuille made to resemble feathers. The curved, shaped bodice (signature to Versace) flares out just below the hip, creating a stunning silhouette. The jewels in her ears and around her wrist are from Chopard, and are a great addition to this show-stopping gown.
Let me know what you think!

Rugby World Cup 2007
My favourites here are La Lopez and The Blanchett.
They look divine!!
I didn't watch the Oscars but I did see snippets of the red carpet arrivals...I thought Nicole Kidman looked lovely and statuesque but o lawd...that gal has to lay off the botox...
Helen Mirren looked amazing!
As did Reese Witherspoon.
I do love Paltrow's dress...the style is gorgeous.
But...where were all the sultry brunettes??
CZJ, Salma Hayek, Angelina, Jessica Alba...
Hope you're enjoying being on Orble Jana.
Excellent Oscars coverage...who really cares who wins what?
It's about the fashion!

I think Nicole Kidman got lost under the big bow around her neck, although the colour looked amazing. And for some reason it was very hard to hunt down images of the others! If I can find some I'll be sure to post them for you.
Thanks for reading!

I didn't mind Nicole Kidman except for that huge bow on her dress and the dead straight hair! I think she needs to chop it off, same goes for Gwyneth.
Jennifer Hudson is a pretty girl and she destroyed her look with that metallic jacket! Good on her for winning the oscar though....
Oh, and Kirsten Dunst, what was she thinking? Meryl Streep, what happened there?
I could be here all night so thats it for me.

And I do recall Sisi's post where Meryl Streep was on the worst dressed list a while back...
