2007 Australian Transeasonal Fashion Week
September 11th 2006 09:46
Melbourne Spring Fashion Week was also held last week, but it was the less heavily publicised Australian Fashion Week that I was really looking forward to posting about. Held from September 4-6, it was also located in Melbourne, at the St Kilda Sea Baths, and featured some of my favourite Aussie talent, including Toni Maticevski, Fashionassassin, and Mad Cortes, as well as a selection of rising star designers. Here are my favourites from the transeasonal collections for 2007.
Toni Maticevski was first up, giving Melbourne a sample of his Spring/Summer collection before jetting off to New York to showcase the pieces at Olympus Fashion Week. What a wonderful show to kick off Australian Fashion Week though! I love it - it reminds me a little of Chloe, but the detailing and textures are so very Maticevski.
Dhini Pararajasingham's aptly named label Dhini is definitely one to keep an eye out for in the future. A recent graduate of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, the emerging designer produced a thrilling collection for Fashion Week, incorporating breathtaking bubble skirts/dresses, classy cropped trenches, hot high waistlines, and much more. Look out for her - I think she's going to be big!
I absolutely love this collection!!! Fashionassassin's use of colour and patterns is never boring, and I've always liked the casual nature of their label. I especially love the guys' stuff this season - taking funky to an all new level of funk!
Mira Vukovic has created another dramatic and stylish winter collection. Vukovic's collection for Mad Cortes was definitely the highlight of Fashion Week for me, with refined pieces made from superior materials, reflecting a more mature style that is still as enchanting as ever.
